1.   Job opportunities: Jordan Pioneers.

 
Jordan Pioneers in collaboration with Sesame workshop (New York) is producing a series of live size Muppet musical theater performances; and are calling for the following jobs: 
–      Three Puppeteers:    

  • Skills and requirements:
  • Dynamic person, who can easily move around with the costume.
  • Patient and able to deal with crowds of children. 
  • Two females (average height between 150-165 cm).
  • One Male (average height) 170-180 cm.

2. Call for submissions: Shasha Grant  
The Shasha Grant is the Abu Dhabi Film Commission’s international screenwriting competition designed to identify, develop and launch the career of outstanding filmmakers.  The program exposes emerging filmmakers to high-level industry decision makers and facilitates financing for talented writers and directors from around the world. The Abu Dhabi Film Commission will invite the Shasha Grant finalists to Abu Dhabi to attend The Circle Conference and participate in all Circle events. 
Requirements for submission: All Projects must fulfill one or more of the following main criteria:

  • The project subject matter is set in the Middle East OR North Africa.
  • One of the key team members (writer, producer or director) is Emirati
  • OR a resident of the Middle East OR of Middle Eastern OR North African decent
  • The project is to be filmed in the UAE.
  • The Shasha Grant competition is open for applications from teams of a writer and director or writer and producer, who have completed a short, feature or documentary film that was awarded a prize, has been screened at an international film festival or has had a broadcast commission.
  • Writers may not have more than two produced feature screenplays.
  • Directors may not have directed more than one feature film.
  • Applicants must be comfortable presenting their projects in English.
  • Submitted projects must be a completed feature screenplay or feature documentary project.
  • Projects must be submitted by the screenwriter or director.
  • All application documents must be in English; however screenplays may be submitted in English and Arabic.
  • The online Shasha Grant agreement and application is to be completed online.
  • The following should be sent the mailing address found below: filmmaker’s biography, one page personal statement explaining interest in the Shasha Grant, biographies of key people attached to project, logline and one page synopsis of the project, including genre, a DVD copy of prior work.
  • DVDs must have English subtitles if spoken in another language.
  • Submit an online Application via Withoutabox.com, print and mail the application & applicant Agreement (available at: www.thecircle.ae or www.film.gov.ae ) with all other supporting material.

3.   Call for submissions: Dubai Film Connection 2009 
The Dubai Film Connection (DFC) is the co-production market of DIFF launched in 2007. The third edition will take place from December 11-15, 2009 and aims to raise the visibility of Arab filmmakers and stimulate the growth of film production originating from the Arab world. The DFC focuses on bridging cultures by bringing international and Arab film professionals together to collaborate on the realisation of approximately 15 selected projects each year. 

Requirements for submission:

  • Directors must be of Arab nationality or origin.
  • Directors must have previous directing experience – short films or features.
  • It is essential that the project has a producer attached.
  • The project must be either fiction or documentary feature length films intended for theatrical distribution.
  • The project must be at an advanced stage of development (i.e. ready to be presented and discussed with potential partners) or a work in progress where principal photography is completed. An extensive treatment or a full draft script and a financial plan will be required, from all applicants, as part of the selection process.
  • Project and application form must be sent to the mailing address found below.
  • Projects submitted for the Work in Progress category will also have to supply edited copies of the material already shot.
  • All written materials must be submitted in English. All filmed works must be available with English subtitles.

4. Call for submissions: Muhr awards  
DIFF introduced the Muhr Awards for Arab Cinema in 2006, with the aim of honoring Arab filmmakers at a regional and international level. In three years, the Muhr Awards has recognized 50 Arab filmmakers and talents and distributed cash awards, while also critically contributing towards raising the awardees’ profile globally.  
Requirements for submission:

  • Films must have been produced after September 1, 2008.
  • Films must not have been screened in the Gulf region for any audiences before DIFF. With exceptions for films that have participated in the second edition of the Gulf Film Festival, films from outside of the Gulf region must be Gulf premieres and films from the Gulf region must be UAE premieres.
  • Until the end of DIFF, films must not have been broadcasted and/or made available on television, the internet, mobile phones and/or any other public viewing platform now known or thereafter devised.
  • Films must be directed by a filmmaker of Arab Nationality or origin.
  • The subject and storyline of the film should be centered on the Arab world, Arab history and/or Arab culture.
  • Films along with an entry form must be sent to the festival mailing address found below.
  • Feature films have to equal or exceed 60 minutes in length.
  • Fiction and documentary films are also accepted to compete for the Award.
The deadline for submissions is on the 31th August 2009.

5.  Call for submissions: UNICEF CRC Video Contest-20th Anniversary 
UNICEF is celebrating its 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), a document that commemorates all the important rights young people have.  UNICEF is calling for film-makers that Make a one minute video showing what child rights mean to you, whether in the world at large, your country, your community or you personally.  The winning video will be used in the CRC’s 20th anniversary celebration and made available for broadcast around the world for the 2010 The International Children’s Day of Broadcasting. 
Requirements for submissions: 

  • Videos in all languages are accepted; however, for videos not in English, please provide an English language transcript of the script or summary.
  • All videos must be 1 minute in length.
  • Participants must be below 25 years of age.
  • Submissions can be either by an individual or a group, and can be sponsored by an organization or corporation
  • Each individual or group is limited to one submission.
  • All videos should be free of copyright materials.
  • Each video should be uploaded to one of the following video sharing sites:  YouTube, Blip.tv, Dailymotion, Veoh.
  • Videos are to be uploaded on the website found below, and an email is to be sent to [email protected] with the: Name, age, link to movie upload, title of movie, postal address (with country), email address and telephone number.

6.   Call for submissions: Tangiers festival 
The Mediterranean Short Film Festival of Tangier
is calling for submissions for its seventh edition will be held from 12 to 17 October 2009. The festival only accepts fiction films.
Requirements for submissions: 

  • An entry form found on the festival website found below is to be sent with the following to the festival mailing address.
  • The film in any language other than French should include subtitles.
  • A listing of credits, screenplay, photography, sets, editing, sound, music, cast, etc.
  • Film synopsis and biography of director.
  • Filmography, original titles, English titles, year of production, awards if any.
  • At least one photo of the film and of the director.
  • Press kit.
The deadline for submissions is on the 30th of July 2009.

7. Call for submissions: The 46th Antalya International Film Festival  
46th Antalya International Film Festival will take place in Antalya, Turkey, between the dates 10 – 17 October 2009. Antalya International Film Festival will accept full length fiction, documentary and digital films for Competition and Informative sections, without any thematic or geographic limitations. The festival aims to promote the development of film industry and cooperation of world artistic community, as well as to contribute to the development of film culture in Turkey. 
Requirements for submission:

  • The festival accepts fiction films over 60 minutes.
  • Films in 35 mm format are eligible.
  • All the films selected must have been produced within a 24-month period preceding the festival.
  • All films selected for Competition will be screened in their original version with English subtitles. Digital Turkish subtitling will be provided by the festival.
  • A DVD or VHS tape of the English subtitled original version of the film and the requirements listed below should also arrive to Antalya at the same date.
  • CD including the synopsis of the film, the artistic and technical data sheet,
  • CD including the English dialogue list of the film (to prepare the Turkish subtitles).
  • Press kit and posters of the film and production photographs.
  • DVD or Video cassettes for viewing purposes (Pal VHS format, Secam, Beta SP).
The deadline for the arrival of the entry form and film is on the 15th of August 2009.

8. Call for submissions: Leeds International Film Festival  
Leeds International Film Festival is renowned as the UK’s largest regional festival with a reputation for challenging and innovative programming. The Film Festival features high-profile programme sections including Fanomenon (the UK’s largest genre event), Short Film City, Cinema Versa, and the Official Selection for UK and international features. The festival will be held in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
from the 4th till the 15th of November 2009. 
Requirements for submissions:

  • The film must have been completed after 1 January 2008.
  • Any genre and any length of film will be considered – anything under 45 minutes is classified as a short, anything over 45 minutes is classified as a feature.
  • The film must not have appeared on British television.
  • Films are to be submitted via www.withoutabox.com.
  • The film on DVD, for viewing purposes is to be sent to the festival mailing address found below.
  • Multiple submissions may be submitted, but each film must be treated as a separate entry (one fee per film).
  • If the original language of any dialogue or text featured in the film is not English, the preview and screening copy must be subtitled in English.
The deadline for submission is on the 21st August 2009.

9. Call for submissions: DigiFestival.net  
DigiFestival.net – international online film and video festival – fifth edition aims to extend, through web video technology, the reach, popularity and diffusion of international artistic productions. DigiFestival.net was created during 2004 and went online for the first time in the 2005 edition. The festival is managed by the DC Network with the same mission ever: promote, diffuse and, from now on, even sell independent art. The festival will be held in Italy from 15th of August till the 15th of September 2009. 
Requirements for submission:

  • All artists and companies from all categories can participate with their productions and works realized and/ or documented in video.
  • Submitted works, no longer than 20 minutes, will be divided into art categories. Selection of the art category will be directly decided by artist discretion and the Festival will put no limitations on artists’ choices. The list of participating artists will be published in the relative category section in alphabetical order. All artists will have a personal web page on the DigiFestival.net network that relates to the artist’s selected category.
  • Submitted videos will be encoded in Windows Media technology and published on the internet on the DigiFestival.net network in two qualities in order to be available and be viewed by all kinds of audience with internet or mobile connections.
  • Video works will all be published on the DigiFestival.net network on the festival beginning date and time and will remain available on the network unless the artist or the DF staffs decides to remove them.
  • Prizes awarded to artist for any art category are to be given by the DigiFestival.net festival jury.
The deadline for submission is on the 1st of August 2009.
