The Dark Side of the Spon Ep. 4 Dark Side of the Spoon | Episode 3

The Dark Side of the Spoon is a comic strip created, written and penciled by Mike V. Derderian, and inked and colored by Waleed Qutteineh.

The first official episode appeared in U Men’s August 2009 issue—Thank you Shirene.

It follows the lives of Mako, a Mako shark with amphibian abilities and the appetite of—duh—a shark, and, Me-ouch, a one eyed well-read cat.

How did they end up living in an underground pad in Amman’s Al Balad area? To cut a long story short…wait for and read upcoming episodes…

    Thanks Hend. I have a brilliant colorist and a very twisted mind. Explaining a joke kills it but I am going to do so in ten sentences, voila:

    1. Imagine a large pink elephant is sitting in your living room.
    2. You see him sitting there everyday.
    3. A month passes yet he is still there.
    4. Eventually and after much hesitation you decide to ask him a question.
    5. Sadly you ask him the wrong question.
    6. Aren't you supposed to be white?
    7. The elephant says no and you, satisfied by the answer, continue leading your life ignoring him.
    8. You should have asked: Why and what are you doing here and what do you want from me?
    9. Elephant in the Living Room is an “English idiom for an obvious truth that is being ignored or goes unaddressed.” Source: Wikipedia.
    10. This episode somewhat, and in a very Dark Side of the Spoon humor, alludes to the deteriorating state of the Arab World that simply ignores its many problems (nepotism, division, corruption, idiocy, favoritism, ignorance, empathy, intolerance and ineptitude) that are sitting in the comfort of its narrow living room.
