Events in Amman, July 25 – 31

الأحد 25 تموز 2010

This week is packed with an exciting variety of cultural events; the Amman Summer Festival brings you daily performances by local artists in the beautiful outdoor theater of the Hussein Park. The Jordan Festival features the Palestine Youth Orchestra on Wednesday, and battle of the Bands continues at the Crown Plaza with some new faces and young local bands.

UNESCO along with the Jordanian Caucasian Cultural Society are organizing a “Night of Cultural Diversity in Jordan”, featuring   Jordanian folkloric dance, Circassian dance and music, Bukhari poetry from Uzbekistan, Kazakh music, Turkish music and dance,  Chechen music, Armenian folkloric dance and music, and poetry from Daghestan. Be sure to check it out on Friday at the Roman theater downtown.

Tonight and tomorrow, hop to Mohtaraf Remal in Luweibdeh for “Jayeen min Falasteen” (Coming from Palestine) where a group of artists from Palestine and Jordan will present art work, music, and stand up comedy.

Did you know that there’s a new bilingual font marketed worldwide called Amman FF, as one of the largest bilingual font families ever? It was designed by German type-design rising star Yanone for the Amman Municipality’s “Amman Brand” project in collaboration with SYNTAX, and you can hear all about it from him at a special talk on Tuesday at Al-Balad Theater.

Also, don’t miss the screenings of documentaries that tackle the political and environmental situation in Lebanon, by director Hadi Zakkak, at the Royal Film Commission, in the presence of the director.

There’s a lot more, so read on, enjoy the events, and send reviews, videos and photos to editor[at]7iber[dot]com.
