Events in Amman, Feb 13 – 18

الأحد 13 شباط 2011

Tunisia and Egypt got everyone glued to their television sets and computer screens since the beginning of 2011. In the midst of the political turmoil, the role of new media has grown significantly and is generating an interesting debate about the extent to which it challenges mainstream media and how it reshapes the political discourse. 7iber and Makan are hosting a conversation around this topic in an attempt to create a better understanding of the new media landscape in turbulent political times. Join us for the Hashtag Debate this wednesday.

In arts and culture highlights; Palestinian oud player Nizar Rouhana comes to Amman and performs at Al-Balad theater on Tuesday, and the Amman National Music Orchestra presents a Parisian Night with French conductor Alain Paris and soloist Nabih Boulos on violin. You also have numerous international film screenings at the Royal Film Commission, French Cultural Center, and the Shoman Foundation. The Gaza Graffiti exhibition at the National Art Gallery closes this week, so you have two days left if you’re interested. Check below for details on these events and more happening in Amman this week.

7iber’s calendar is compiled in collaboration with Waw al-Balad Magazine.
