Film: “Kingdom of Women”

Spring is here and Amman’s arts and culture agenda is getting packed. Aat (the network of women artists in Jordan) and Al-Balad Theater are organizing the International Women’s Day Festival, with activities throughout March; film screenings, workshops, and dance performances.

Indie film lovers are in for a treat, as the Royal Film Commission hosts Egyptian Film Days at the Royal Cultural Center, with award winning feature films, shorts and documentaries.

On Saturday “Land &Dignity: Israeli Apartheid Week” kicks off with two exhibitions at Darat al-Funun: Mapping Apartheid, and Falasteen as I see it, as well as a photo and graffiti exhibition at the Studio, experimental shorts, and a seminar.

It’s a busy week for exhibition openings; Zara Gallery presents a solo exhibition by up-and-coming Jordanian artist/architect Dina Haddadin, titled “Beyond Emptiness; Demarking Absent Grounds, and Lingered Nothingness”. Darat al-Funun hosts Iraqi Finnish artist Adel Abidin. The Image Festival continues with new openings: Jordanian artist Ammar Khammash at Jacaranda Images, “Balades a Paris” at Paris circle and the French Cultural Center, photography by Linda al-Khoury at Al-Balad theater, and more.
