Events in Amman, June 5 – 11

الأحد 05 حزيران 2011

This week, Darat Al-Funun in collaboration with Tate Modern/London, opens a new exhibition titled “Out of Place”, in which four artists explore the relationship between dominant political forces and personal and collective histories by looking at urban space, architectural structures and the condition of displacement. The opening night will feature a concert of classical Arabic music by the Edward Said Conservatory in the outdoor archeological site of the Darat.

If you’re a film fan you probably already know that one of the best things about summer in Amman is the Royal Film Commission’s outdoor screening auditorium, and this week they’re presenting three Spanish feature films by female directors, in the presence of director and screenwriter Ines Paris.

Don’t miss Amman’s GeekFest on Saturday at the Courtyard, where you get to enjoy networking and geeky activities, with talks by Dr. Rami Dhaher who will discuss the relationship between Urban Design, Systems & Spaces, and Jo Blin, who will be talking about environmental activism with art.

You also have the last night of Dozan’s concert “Lamma Bada”, artist talk at Makan, environmental film screening at Blue Fig, Independence festival at the Royal Cultural Center, and more. So read on, and enjoy.
