Classical oriental music, ‘Home’, and more in Amman this week

‘Greenpeace’ will be screening the 2009 documentary ‘Home’ at 7iber Cafe’s rooftop (Tuesday 9:00 pm, narrated in Arabic). The film written and directed by the renowned French filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand is mostly composed of aerial shots from over 50 countries around the world. It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet. Omsiat Ramadan’ oriental music week kicks off today at The Royal Cultural Center with a performance by the Lebanese singer Raneen Sha’ar. On Monday, Moroccan singer Nazeeha Muftah and poet Khaled Rummo present a music and poetry duo, composed by the Syrian Ghaith Jasser.

The Egyptian group ‘Oshaq al-Nagham’ will be performing various classical Arabic songs on Thursday. Their lead singer and the soloist of the Egyptian Opera House’s National Arab Music Ensemble, Iman Abdul Ghani, will perform solo on Friday.

The week will conclude on Saturday with the Jordanian singer and professor of music and Arabic singing, Ayman Tayseer. The event will be dedicated to the Egyptian icons Abdul Halim Hafez and Mohammed Abdul Wahhab.
