الأحد 02 أيار 2010

You’re in for a double, no, triple-treat this week. Three festivals are taking place, along with plenty of individual events all over town.

For the third year in a row Hakaya festival, organized by Al Balad theatre, celebrates the art of storytelling. This year the festival brings a variety of storytellers and artists from around the Arab world, in addition to film screenings, book presentations, workshops and seminars, to various locations around Amman and other Jordanian cities. One of the highlights is 70-year-old Egyptian Hajj Sayyed – the last lyricist of the Hilaly epic, otherwise known as the Arab Illiad.

The Free Theater’s International Festival kicked off yesterday and continues till Thursday with plays from Jordan and the Arab world every evening at the Royal Cultural Center and other venues. May is definitely a good month for theater lovers because after this festival the Ministry of Culture is launching another Spring Theater Festival from the 13th to the 24th of May.

And for all you tech enthusiasts out there, don’t miss the first Amman Tech Tuesdays (#AmmanTT) event this week at the Princess Sumaya University for Technology. It’s a local platform that brings engineers, business people, experts, investors, marketers, entrepreneurs, students and regular enthusiasts from the technology community together on the first Tuesday of every month in a casual but structured setting.

This long intro still doesn’t cover it – we’ve got Europe Day concert with Spanish Syrian Band Orontes along with Yazan Roussan and Autostrad at al-Hussein Park, jazz night by Chapter 11 at Canvas, comedy performance and auditions, two Jordanian documentaries, Saturday’s Farmers market, and a lot more, so read on, and enjoy all that Amman has to offer.
