7iber is an independent media outlet that is youth-orientated and Jordanian-based. Pronounced hiber – with a hard ‘h’ that is virtually non-existent in the English language – 7iber looks to provide an online platform that allows young Jordanians to become more actively engaged. Essentially, it is a place for citizen-generated content to flourish, fostering a critical and informed civil society through an independent and participatory new media. Our organization offers a model for free speech in Jordan by offering an alternative to mainstream and state-run media, while attempting to provide professional, ethical and fearless journalism.

7iber provides original, creative and interesting content, seeking to better inform our audience of untapped Jordanian issues as well as providing local perspectives and first-hand accounts of news, politics, arts and culture. Content will be a mixture of articles and multimedia based primarily on submissions from the general citizenry as well as the 7iber team.

Its aim is to demonstrate to a generation of tech-empowered citizens that it is possible to become engaged in the process of change, by developing a platform that allows them to become active elements in that process.

Our name “7iber” comes from the Arabic word “ink,” whereby the number 7 represents the Arabic letter ‘haa.’ Commonly seen in its digital form, the 7 has become a standard replacement for the letter ‘haa’ amongst the interconnected generation of the Arab world.

7iber was founded on May 25th, 2007, Jordan’s 60th anniversary of independence.

حبر هو منبر إعلامي مستقل يتوجه إلى الشباب بشكل خاص و ينطلق من الأردن. يهدف حبر لتوفير ساحة إعلامية إلكترونية تمكن الشباب الأردني من الانخراط بشكل أكبر في مجتمعاتهم المحلية و بكل ما يتعلق بوطنهم. بشكل أساسي، يعد حبر المكان المناسب لنشر مشاركات الناس، و تعزيز الجانب التحليلي و الثقافي للمجتمع المدني عبر استخدام وسائل الإعلام الجديد و التشاركي. و تمثل حبر نموذجاً حياً للتعبير الحر عن طريق توفير بديل أخلاقي، محترف و جريء للإعلام التقليدي السائد و الذي ينطلق من مؤسسات الإعلام الحكومية.

تقدم حبر محتوى إبداعي خلاق بهدف إطلاع جمهورنا على القضايا المهمشة و مشاركتهم وجهات النظرية المحلية، بالإضافة إلى النقل المباشر للأخبار و الأحداث السياسة و الثقافة و الفنون. و يقدم هذا المحتوى في عدة أشكال منها المقالات و الصور و الفيديو و المرسلة إلينا من المواطنين أو المعدة من قبل فريقنا.

من أهداف حبر أن يثبت لهذا الجيل المسلَح بالتكنولوجيا أنه من الممكن الانخراط في التغيير عن طريق تطوير منصة إلكترونية تمكنهم من السعي وراء التغيير و تفعيل نشاطاتهم عبر الانترنت.
