Letter on Hip Hop in Jordan

الجمعة 06 شباط 2009

Hey people, this is MC NiZ-R a part from TAJ (The Arabian Journal) which is a part of MMD (Microphone Men Dahab), I have brought Arabic Hip Hop to Jordan 8 years ago, and I feel like a proud father watching Arabic Hip Hop finally growing in Amman, and seeing a lot of people showing interest in Arabic Hip Hop, and giving us the chance to speak our mind.

A while ago, we had an incident with our brothers Street 962, where we were invited by a protest’s organizers to perform there about Gaza, so we gladly accepted the invitation, and we were honored to join such a noble cause, they have got us all the equipments that were needed to do a show, then as the show started almost everyone was into the music, and they understood our cause, till we were attacked by someone who was an attention seeker, and claimed us of being traitors, terrorists, and destroying the youth with our American Culture, and accused us of an American conspiracy theory.

We have asked him why he thinks so he responded that it was [ hip hop ]an American culture, I basically asked him if his cellphone, glasses, or clothes are an Arab culture, he didn’t know what to answer, then he replied with if we performed, a lot of people would leave the protest, I asked him if he charged them on the door? Because it was sounding very commercial to me, anyway after asking around about this guy, they told me he didn’t let the protesters pray Salat al Gha’eb the day before, so I understood everything, but we proved to people that they should give our lyrics an ear especially after we performed at the YWCA in the Aid Gaza charity event, and now that 962 is shooting a video about Gaza, and all the rappers from Jordan either worked or are working on a song for Gaza.

Maybe this will be criticized by many, but don’t forget it’s our form of speech and our way of reaching out to the next generations. I’m very proud to be in Jordan honestly, because the Jordanian people have made us so proud with all these events and protests, and everything they did. And I’m very happy to perform in the charity events which are happening.

I’d like to pass my respect along with Ram-E’s and Rakan’s to all our fans, and all the 7iber.com’s readers, and I’d like to thank 7iber.com for supporting local talents, and keeping an eye on charity events, protests and everything that has to do with supporting Gaza.

One love, One God, One Ummah.

Salam,
Nizar Samarrai (A.K.A MC NiZ-R)
