The Middle East Expedition is a caravan of buses travelling Jordan, Syria and Lebanon in the summer 2010 to discover new and creative ways of engagement and involvement in the society that surround us. We belive that the youth of today have ideas and actionbased potential to create dialogue and awareness between the agenda setters of tomorrow. We will travel to break down barriers and create youth based projects that can reach local communities in a new and uniqe way. Do you have a project in mind that could engage people or do you want to be a part of “driving” the bus – hook up with The Middle East Expedition – coming to a town near you.

Imagine a bus; a travelling project with citizen journalists, who make a local paper in each new city, and share blogged stories from the different cities through focuses on common identity. Journalism made by locals together with the project creators of the bus. Think of a rolling music studio setting out to make a soundtrack of the Middle East, identifying musicians in each city that works on the tracks of the previous city, all under the theme of local communities´ sound.
See in your mind’s eye United Stencilists of the Middle East. Consider the effect of a moving local radio station.
The MeXp is an action based idea in motion. It is a travelling bus filled with creative people rolling through the Middle East to discuss social engagement with a new and creative approach. With each stop in different cities in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, the people on the bus will discuss engagement and involvement with the people they meet, by developing the projects jointly.
100 young academics and artists from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Denmark will use the next year to prepare projects to go on the bus in the summer 2010. The projects come from the participants’ own interests and knowledge, and the form depends on their decisions. While the bus is travelling the projects will develop even further, and through the discussions with the local communities it will take form and change.
This idea explores how to talk to people through what they know best. If a filmmaker talks to another filmmaker, something different will come out of it, than if he or she is sat down in a workshop to discuss. Here, joined artistic outcomes will rise from discussions of differences and similarities with the people you work with, and the people you meet. The creative projects are the door opener to get in contact with the locals, and discuss how we all reflect on our daily lives and how we act within our own communities.
The outcome of the bus will be a major network of creative thinkers, who wish to think their own possibilities in a new light. New art projects will come: creative ideas that are carried through with the audience. Common themes will be discussed to find diversity and connections, and a new focus will be put on involvement, engagement and responsibility.
So how will this actually be accomplished? Think creativity differently.
This idea will be carried through when enough people commit to it, and engage themselves in planning and doing it. Organizers are needed, thinking out of the box is needed, creativity and debates are in the line.

Go figure, come join us.
