Your Perspective: Obama and the New Middle East

الجمعة 12 حزيران 2009

US President Barack Obama is fulfilling a campaign promise by giving a major speech to the Muslim world in a Muslim capital. Many have been hailing the move as initial steps taken by the current administration to mend the diplomatic damage done by his predecessor. However, others have suggested that without tangible actions, Obama’s smooth words may be nothing more than propaganda.

What’s your perspective?

if president obama succumbed to hypocrisy, then that would go against everything he said he stood for. president obama is (he says) about transparent politics, and he wants to establish a better relationship–than the one we have now–with the middle east. to say his words are fluff in one particular area would undermine his entire base of creditability.

The End justifies the means and thats the fact of life…i don’t think obama should be judged now until he as finished his term…The truth is the world is more complicated than meets the eye and the chaos that has been caused by is predecessors is way pass being fixed in a blink of an eye…So calling him a sheep in wolves clothing wouldn’t really be a fair way to qualify him, cause he his not the situation, he his just trying to fix the situation…Rather qualifying him, i think the right thing would be to qualify the situation…and in my own words i’ll say…He his a Sheep amongst Wolves…

The American Empire is pushing forward no matter who the president is.

The snake keeps moving no matter who the head is.

lets give him time before judging. given america’s ties with israel, it is unlikely that obama will publicly have strong words of praise or condemnation for any parties in this conflict. i’m cautiously optimistic that obama has intelligence and a global perspective lacking in almost all recent US presidents. lets wait and see, but i for one am optimistic.

Obama’s speech in Cairo was good in one way, that it signified a departure from the racist discourse that was used by Bush in addressing the Arab and Muslim World. The subject matter of the speech, however, did not signify any change in the American view of the area. Another example, Obama said that USA should not be used in the Iranian post-election conflict, however, the Congress voted on a decision regarding the matter which weakened Khatami-Musavi front inside Iran and marked them as American agents.
There is no good that the American policy can do. Obama is just complicating things further by his tear-bringing speaches.

(Know my answer is really late!) I personally think politics are dirty, that’s one thing.Obama has lots to catch on,he has lots of responsabilities ahead of him.He might be the change he been promising but as far as i see it,he won’t do much,it’s out of his hands! Israel will still occupy Palestine and a few will be done for the Palestinian cause.Leaders don’t do a thing,it’s all volunteering work and normal people who help!
