مع أن معظم الدول الأمريكية أو الأوروبية اعترفت بالرئيس الإيراني محمود أحمدي نجاد إلا أنها رفضت تهنئته. و ردا على ذلك، قال أحمدي نجاد: “سمعنا أن بعض القادة الغربيين قرروا الاعتراف بالحكومة الجديدة من دون تهنئة…لا أحد في إيران بانتظار رسائلكم. لن يقدر الإيرانيون بلطجتكم ولن يكترثوا لابتساماتكم و ترحيباتكم”.

Most European and American countries acknowledged, but refused to congratulate Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. In response, Ahmadinejad said, “We heard that some of the Western leaders had decided to recognize but not congratulate the new government … Well, no one in Iran is waiting for your messages. Iranians will neither value your scowling and bullying nor will they pay attention to your smiles and greetings.”
