Events in Amman, January 15 – 21

This week Darat Al-Funun presents the first solo exhibition of artist Basma Al-Sharif, whose work explores how geo-political issues affect people physically and emotionally. The exhibition includes video installations and photographs spanning the past six years of the artist’s career.

The Arab Theater Festival concludes today with a play from Lebanon titled “Makateeb” (Letters), but theater activities continue, with Jordanian play “the Incident” by Sawsan Darwazeh and Saba Mubarak showing on Wednesday at the Royal Cultural Center.

In memory of the first Czech president Vaclav Havel, who passed away last December, the Czech Embassy in collaboration with the Royal Film Commission is organizing a screening of the documentary “Citizen Havel”, on Monday at the RFC’s Film House.

There’s a lot more; an exhibition by Mohammad Shammary at Jacaranda, a hip hop and spoken word event, book signings and discussions, Jazz, and more. Read on for details.
