Films, photography exhibits, and more in Amman this week

June 8, 2014

This week in Shoman a variety of events will be taking place. Tonight, the Greek film BILOBA will be screened (6:30 PM). The film narrates the story of Peter, an engineer working for a multinational company of dubious environmental sensibilities, who is sent to  an insignificant dot on the map, somewhere in the Aegean, to oversee the construction of an electrical power plant. On Tuesday a Tunisian film, Le Professeur, will be screened  (6:30 PM). As part of The Children Cinema,  the film Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki will be screened on Thursady (5:00 pm).

Orfali Gallery presents a music evening, Iraqi Maqam, with  Hussain Al-Adhami on Tuesday (8:00 PM).

Two photography exhibits will be open in Amman this week: Dask-Dogay Nature Shoot Out in Fann Wa Chai and From Qurtuba To Córdoba in the Cervantes Institute. Zara Gallery hosts an exhibit opening  titled ENCOUNTERS, featuring artists Aileen Abdo, Dina Malkawi, and Majd Soudi (Wednesday 6:00 PM). For the second movie night, ArcitectureInMotion will be screening the documentary Regular or Super: Views on Mies Van der Rohe, a 2004 film that offers a fascinating glimpse on the life and works of one of the 20th century’s most influential architects to-date and a pioneer of modern architecture, to whom the famous motto “Less is More” is attributed (Tuesday 8:00 PM).
