Arabic Latin Fusion, Architecture Film Screening, and More in Amman This Week

Architecture in Motion film screenings resume this Tuesday (August 26, 8pm) with the documentary “KOCHUU”, on modern Japanese architecture, its roots in the Japanese tradition and its impact on the Nordic building-tradition, on 7iber’s beautiful terrace overlooking old Amman.

Arab cinema fans are in for a treat, as Makan resumes its Arab Cinema Archive project. The upcoming three films are by Egyptian director Kamal Al-Shaikh, one of the pioneers of Egyptian and Arab cinema. The program kicks off with a screening of “The Thief and the Dogs”, an adaptation of Naguib Mahfouz’s classic. (Monday August 25, at 8:00 pm).

If you’re into fusion of classical Arabic songs and latin music, check out Laila Sabbagh and The Group live at Blue Fig (August 25 and 26, 9pm). In the style of “Hanin Y Son Cubano“, Laila Sabbagh performs classics by Abdel Wahab, Asmahan, in addition to Latin and Spanish songs, with rhythms of Salsa, Bossa Nova, Bachata, and more.

Jordanian musician Tareq Abu Kwaik (a.k.a El Far3i) performs live at Jadal Culture on Thursday (August 28, 8:00 pm. Tickets JD 5).
