On Wednesday, as part of the “Finjan Qahweh” talk series, 7iber hosts researcher Vladimir Troyansky for a talk titled “The Refugees Empire: Networks of North Caucasus Muhajirs in Jordan, Syria, and Anatolia, 1878-1914“, in which he will discuss the arrival and resettlement of hundreds of thousands of Circassian, Chechen, and Daghestani muhajirs in the last decades of the Ottoman rule. (Wednesday September 10, at 8:00 pm).

UK-based Jordanian author Fadia Faqir will launch her new novel “Willow Trees Don’t Weep” at the Landmark Hotel (Tuesday September 9, from 6:00 till 8:00). She will read extracts from her novel and other works, with commentary from Dr. Rula Quawas, Professor of American Literature and Feminist Theory at the University of Jordan. The readings will be in English and Arabic, the discussion in Arabic. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided. The book will be available for sale at the event.

This week the 7th Hakaya Festival kicks off, offering a variety of storytelling shows and performances in venues across Jordan. Check out the full schedule here (scroll down for English).
