Amman Lab collaborates with the Center for the Study of the Build Environment to bring you a talk by spanish architect and professor Josep Lluís Mateo titled “Nature, City, and Matter: Some Specific Projects.” It will take place at the Columbia University Middle East Research Center, Monday October 13, at 7 pm.

The second session of the series “Life is Elsewhere: Rehousing Home and Redefining Identity” will take place on Saturday October 18 at Darat Al Funun’s Lab. Throughout this series, writer and assistant professor Dr. Akram Al Deek questions the politics of home and identity and microscopes themes of exile and displacement through selected novels and their cinematic adaptations. The upcoming session features Ghassan Kanafani’s “Men in the Sun”, which follows the lives of three refugees seeking to ‘get out’ of a refugee camp in Lebanon and ironically die on their way out. The focus here will be on what it means to be a Palestinian (refugee) and what are the different meanings of diaspora. (Saturday October 18, 4:00 pm).
