Documentaries, Exhibitions, Talks and More in Amman This Week

This week, the Royal Film Commission in cooperation with The British Council present the 2nd edition of “Sheffield Film Days in Amman” in the presence of the Sheffield Doc/Fest representative, Sylvia Wroblewska. The screenings will take place Sunday through Thursday and will include “A Dangerous Game”, “Life Itself”, “The Last Man on the Moon” and others (7:00 pm).

The Chinese film “Touch of sin” will be screened at Shoman Foundation this Tuesday. Inspired by true-life stories, Jia Zhangke’s attention-grabbing epic teases together four disparate stories of people driven to violence by the purgatorial pain of their modern existence (6:30 pm).

At Darat Al Funun, artist Nidal El Khairy’s first exhibition will open containing a series of illustrations and interpretations of the works of Syrian poet and playwright Mohammad Al Maghout. The opening will showcase the results of his residency at the Lab (Tuesday, 6:30 pm).

Bethlehem”, another exhibition by artist Sina Ata, opens at Jacaranda Images Art Gallery. During 2014, Sina Ata worked in Bethlehem for several months. And as an artist does, he documented his time, experience and observations of people’s lives and their environment. Ata develops the concept from observation to immersion, then pares back the visual experience to its minimal form in the paintings which were completed on his return to Amman (Wednesday, 6:00 pm).

Spring Sessions’ talks series presents an “Artist Talk” by Asuncion Molinos-Gordo, at The Studio. In her talk, Molinos-Gordo will present two different works; “Chozo”, a project dealing with vernacular architecture in rural Spain built by nomadic shepherds, and “El Falah” that tackles the transformation of labour in Jordanian peasantry, produced in collaboration with Darat Al-Funun in 2013 (Monday, 6:30 pm)
