Talks, Classical Music and a Film Screening in Amman This Week

7iber wishes you a happy Eid! With only three days before Eid Al Adha, Amman’s cultural agenda is not as packed as previous weeks. Here are some of the highlights.

Today,  X-Talk #16 by Medine Altiok will be held at Makan ArtSpace (Sunday 7:00 pm). Altiok is an architect and program director of the AA Mittelmeerland Visiting School. Over the past four years, the AA Visiting School MITTELMEERLAND investigated the future of the Mediterranean as a ‘territory’; one that is based on climatic and economic conditions, and subject to specific social, political and spatial dynamics. They travelled to six different Mediterranean cities: Dubrovnik, Tangier, Beirut, Algiers, Alexandria and finally Izmir.

Also today at 6:00 pm, a public lecture by architect and academic Rami Daher entitled «Site Narration & Practices of Patrimonilization: Forgotten & Official Narratives from Jordan» will be held at the British Institute. 

The documentary «Back to my Roots» will be screened at Albalad theater (Monday, 7:00). It tells the story of Fatima, a Palestinian refugee returning to her home country for the first time in her life. The journey starts in her adopted home city of London. (54:00 minutes, subtitled in both Arabic & English)

The Jordan National Orchestra JOrchestra will be performing tonight at Odeon Theater downtown, a concert titled The Sound of Movies, with a selection of famous movies soundtracks (Sunday, 7:30pm, tickets are JD 20).

Another Jazz night will take place at Blue Fig by Noha Fekry and Rami Attallah Live, featuring Songstress Noha Fekry (Egypt) and Pianist Rami Attallah. (Monday, 9:00 pm, ticket JD 5).

The American Academy Jordan is organizing a classical music concert titled «Love Jordan», by Korean-American classical musicians from the world-renowned Juilliard School: Joy Kim (violin), Hana Chu (piano) and Jia Kim (cello). (Monday, 8:00 pm, at Al Hussein Cultural Center, tickets JD 10).
