Street Art Festival, Outdoor Music, Documentary and More

After a long vacation, cultural events pick up again in Amman this week. 

The Palestinain documentary The Wanted 18″ will be screened at Al Balad Theater with the attendance of one of the directors. Through stop-motion animation, drawings and interviews, directors Amer Shomali and Paul Cowan recreate an astonishing true story from the First Palestinian Intifada: the Israeli army’s pursuit of eighteen cows, whose independent milk production on a Palestinian collective farm was declared “a threat to the national security of the state of Israel.

Malahi Entertainment is organizing The Jabal Al Lweibdeh Art Walk KAZDARA. For years now, Jabal Al Lweibdeh has been the heart of Jordan’s creative community, a community which continues to grow each year with more artists taking up residence in the neighborhood, opening up studios, galleries, and creative spaces. This Art Walk comes in an effort to celebrate the thriving creative nature of Jabal Al Lweibdeh. 7iber will be participating at Mi Cara cafe where we will be screening videos and selling 7iber’s posters. (Thursday, 6 pm – Midnight).

Malahi & Mektoub also present Jordan’s First Urban Festival “The Word Is Yours” on Friday and Saturday in Jabal Al Lweibdeh, with hip hop, graffiti, breakdance and skate boarding shows. The festival will host Street Art workshops, presented by APTART, featuring DJ’s DJ Flash B, Sliding Down The Banister, and Missy Ness, And MC’s  Malikah, Satti, Almukhtar, Sons Of Yusuf, Syanptik + Jazz Tha Process, Kazz, and Arab MC’s.

On TuesdayNaqsh will be hosting an evening of outdoor music and entertainment, featuring The Man In Washington (Chris Yeoh) back to play at Naqsh for a second time after a very successful evening in March. Chris has just released his first CD and will be playing all this and more. (7:30pm).

Yacoub Abu Ghosh will be launching his new album “Ayqithini featuring the beautiful voice of singer Laila Sabbagh. The concert will feature 25 musicians from Jordan and the Arab world, performing the songs of the album which are a fusion of classical Arabic music and modern arrangements, at The Odeon Theater. (Ticket price: 10 JD, Album price: 8 JD. Get the ticket & the album for 15 JD). (Wednesday, 8:00 pm).

Organic Brunch at Fann Wa Chai from the Farmers Market is back every Friday in October, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. New delicious recipes with tasty, fresh, local and organic ingredients will wait for you. The brunch is mostly organic (100% of the vegetables and fruits and 50% of the wheat used for the bread), the eggs are free range and antibiotics free, and the cheese is high quality «Al-Farida» Nablousie cheese, produced with local fresh goat and sheep milk.

A lecture on «The Tectonic Grain» by Nader Tehrani, Dean of the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture of Cooper Union in New York City, will take place at Columbia Global Centers, exploring the complex layering of architectural narratives that make up the tectonic grain of various buildings. (Saturday, 6:30 pm)
