ملكات سوريا (2014)

يروي فيلم “ملكات سوريا” قصة حوالي خمسين سيدة، ينتمين إلى مختلف أطراف الصراع في سوريا، اضطررن للجوء إلى الأردن في خريف عام 2013. تبتكر وتؤدي تلك السيدات نسخة لخاصة بهن من الملحمة اليونانية الخالدة، “نساء طروادة”، التي تحكي محنة النساء في الحرب.
تحدث لاحقاً لحظة استثنائية من التواصل عبر الثقافات: نساء سوريات مولودات في القرن العشرين يعثرن على مرآة تعكس تجاربهن الخاصة من خلال قصص ملكة وأميرات ونساء أخريات عاديات مثلهن، ممن عايشن حرب طروادة وتعرضن فيها إلى الاستعباد والاغتصاب والثكل.
في حين حظيت بعض السيدات السوريات على دعم أسرهن، توجّب على الكثيرات منهن التصدي لأزواجهن وآبائهن بسبب كسرهن محرّمات مُجتمعية متعارف عليها، فهن يعملن إلى جانب رجال غرباء خارج المنزل ويؤدين عرضاً مسرحياً. كان التدريب على المسرحية مسارا جياشاً بالعواطف ومحفوفاً بالتحديات مع ظهور أمور دفينة، مما جعل المشروع متأرجحاً كاد يفشل في بعض الأحيان.
حاز الفيلم جائزة اللؤلؤة السوداء لأفضل مخرج من العالم العربي في مهرجان أبو ظبي السينمائي في 2014. كما حصل على تنويه خاص من المفوضية السامية للأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين في مهرجان أفلام حقوق الإنسان في تونس.

Queens of Syria (2014)

“Queens of Syria” tells the story of around fifty women, from all sides of Syria’s conflict, forced into exile in Jordan, who came together in Autumn 2013 to create and perform their own version of the “Trojan Women” – the timeless Greek tragedy all about the plight of women in war.
What followed was an extraordinary moment of cross-cultural contact, where women born in the 20th century Syria found a blazingly vivid mirror of their own experiences in the stories of a queen, princesses and ordinary women like them, enslaved, raped and bereaved by the Trojan War.
Though some Syrian ladies had the support of their families, many had to challenge their husband or fathers as they broke long-held taboos, working with men and foreigners outside the house and performing on stage. The making of the play was a process charged with emotion and fraught with challenges, as long buried issues came to the surface and at times the project itself hung in the balance.
The film has won the Black Pearl Award for Best Director from the Arab World at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, 2014. It also received a Special Mention from the UNHCR at the Human Rights Film Festival in Tunisia.
