Superheroes: The Fate of Conflict and Identity Crisis
A critical reading of the fate of the superhero and heroism, its fall and collapse, through narrative models represented in live action cinema and comics.
Batman and Superman’s battle, Spiderman’s split personality condition, Captain America and Iron Man’s civil war, and Birdman’s theatrical suicide: Are these signs of crisis afflicting the superhero as a concept? Or is the superhero a victim also of the symbolic hegemony held over us? Or perhaps, the culture producing these superheroes is incapable of producing symbols that live up to the ideal?
