لم يكن الأمر الأكثر إلهاماً في قصة “آرون سوارتز” قدرته على القراءة منذ سن الثالثة أو كونه أحد روّاد الإنترنت الموهوبين بين المراهقين. بل إن أكثر ما يبعث على الإلهام بشأن “سوارتز” كان عزمه على استخدام عقله وتفكيره لجعل العالم مكاناً أفضل من خلال زيادة فرص الوصول إلى المعرفة، بينما انشغل كثير من روّاد أعمال الإنترنت بكسب المال.
كان لدى “سوارتز” رؤية سباقة لعصره تخالف نظاماً قانونياً قديماً ما زال نافذاً في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. بعد عام على انتحار “سوارتز”، لا يزال فقدان أحد عمالقة التكنولوجيا الرقمية مريرا.

No, what’s most inspiring about Swartz was when so many internet entrepreneurs were trying to get rich quick, he was absolutely determined to use his intellect to make the world a better place, by increasing access to knowledge.
Swartz was a connector whose prescient vision was at fatal odds with a U.S. legal system still operating in the dinosaur age. A year on from Swartz’s suicide, the loss of a digital giant is still painful.
