Columbia Global Centers presents “Debating the “Woman Question” in the New Middle East”, a conversation with Asef Bayat, Professor of Sociology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian, Director of the Gender Studies Program at Mada al-Carmel-Arab Center for Applied Social Research (Sunday at 4:00 pm).

Amman Jazz continues this week with two shows today: SORIANA (Syria, Italy) at 8:00 pm in Al Balad Theater and Fattet Le3bet (Syria) at 9:00 pm in Villa 14. For the full schedule, check our calendar here.

Zara Gallery presents an exhibit opening this Monday for a double featured exhibition by Dana Rousan and Taif Ali (6:00 pm) titled “Love & Everything Else” and “LOVE”. The exhibition will continue until May 28th.

Starting this Tuesday and up until May 29th, Orient Gallery presents an exhibition by Jamal Abdel Raheem titled “Inspirations of Suma”. He is one of Bahrain’s most established and highly regarded contemporary artists, exhibiting his work in Europe and the Middle East. The award-winning artist builds his art from the movement of society deeply rooted in rich Arab civilization and heritage.

Jabal Amman Cultural Week starts this Thursday and continues on till next week. The program is rich with several cultural activities for all age groups and interests such as film screenings, music shows, poetry evenings, panel discussions, book fair including book signings, children’s activities, in addition to art exhibitions. On Thursday, two exhibits will open in Abdul Hamid Shoman: the Zohrab Photo Exhibition as well as Caricature exhibitions by Jordanian Cartoonists Emad Hajjaj, Omar Al Abdallat, and Naser Al Jaafari.
