على سطوح منزل صغير في منطقة جبل عمّان المقابل مطل على جبل القلعة، يقوم الأخوان التؤام سامر وبلال مارون بكش الحمام والعناية بالقطط منذ ما يقارب الثلاثين عاماً.
يسكن الأخوان الأربعينيان برفقة أمهما ويعتنيان بخمسين طيراً وستّين قطة “بلدية” على سطح المنزل القديم وفي الساحة الجانبية، وبحسب سامر مارون فإن أهل المنطقة يجلبون لهم القطط الضالة باستمرار لمعرفتهم باهتمام الأخوين بهم.
يقول سامر “أقوم بإرسال القطط إلى جمعية لحماية الحيوان لإجراء عملية خاصة تؤدي الى عدم الإنجاب، لكي أتمكن من الرعاية بها ولأبقى مسيطرا على القطط التي أصبحت تملأ المنزل وساحته”.
عمل سامر لمدة 11 عاما بوظيفة حارس لإحدى الجمعيات القريبة من المنزل إلى أن انتقلت الجمعية قبل شهر، ما اضطره لترك العمل والبقاء في المنزل باحثا عن عمل آخر قريب يمكنه من البقاء بجوار قططه وطيوره التي لم يفارقها منذ عقود.
كما ويعمل أخوه بلال حارسا لإحدى المجمعات القريبة براتب شهري مقداره 180 دينارا يصرف معظمها على طعام القطط والحمام.
سطوح منزلهما مفتوح ببشاشة ودفء للعابرين، زارتهما هذا الصيف المصوّرة آني سكّاب وأنتجت هذا الفيديو الوثائقي عنهما.

On the rooftop of a small house in Jabal Amman overlooking the ancient Citadel, twin brothers Samer and Bilal Maroun have been training pigeons and looking after cats for almost 30 years.
The two brothers, in their forties, live with their mother and keep 50 pigeons and 60 cats on their rooftop and in their yard. “Neighbors bring us stray cats because they know we look after them,” says Samer.
“I send the cats to an animal care organisation in order to have them neutered,” he adds, “so I can take care of them and to be able to control the cats that fill the house and its yard.”
Samer worked for 11 years as a guard for an association close to the house, until it moved a month ago, forcing him to leave work and stay at home looking for another job in the area so he can stay close to his cats and pigeons.
Bilal also works as a guard for a nearby complex and gets a monthly salary of 180 JDs, most of which he says he spends on cat and bird food.
The brothers are very welcoming of visitors and strangers, and happy to share a cup of tea on their rooftop and talk about their pigeons and cats. This summer, documentary photographer Annie Sakkab visited them and produced this short documentary video about them.
