Picture of the Day | Medieval Jordan

Taken by zerega

Remains of the black city of Umm Al-Jimal (Mother of Camels) in northern Jordan.
The approx. 130 buildings and 15 churches give a fascinating insight into rural life during Roman, Byzantine and early Islamic times.

The town is part of a series of ‘Desert Castles’ east of Amman on the road into Iraq. One of them made it into the UNESCO list of the World Cultural Heritage.

Stitched panorama of five scanned 28mm slides.
