“…تم تقدير الجِمال قديماً، مثل الأغنام، كمصدر ثروة، كهبة من السماء. حيث يمكن لقافلة من الجمال أن تخفّف من وطأة أقسى الظروف الجويّة بتوفيرها الملجأ والأمان. في فلسطين، تنتمي هذه القوافل إلى الماضي، حيث انقرضت قبائل البدو الرحّل في النّقب، ويتم إجبارهم على المكوث في مساكن حضريّة. “قافلة/ كرافان” اليوم ليست سوى اسماً لحاويات الشحن التي تنتهي رحلتها دوماً في المستوطنات وكمكاتب في مواقع البناء في الضفّة الغربيّة.”

نداء سنّقرط فنان ومخرج سينمائي من أصول فلسطينيّة، يوظّف وسائط مختلفة لتحويل المواد أو النشاطات الاعتياديّة إلى تجربة حسيّة تكشف عن تعقيد الشكل والتصوّر المحاصران بالدنيويّة. تستكشف أعماله في الأفلام أو المنحوتات مفاهيم الزمن والمكان عبر استقصاء للوعي الكامن في الشتات. “كرافان” هو أوّل معرض فردي لسنّقرط في المنطقة.

“…Camels, like sheep, were once revered as a store of wealth, a divine gift. A caravan of camels made even the most inhospitable of climates negotiable by offering shelter and security. In Palestine such caravans are a thing of the past. The nomadic Negev Bedouin are all but extinct, forced into prefabricated urban dwellings. Caravans today are little more than the name we give to shipping containers whose circulation ends permanently as settlements and offices in the West Bank construction sites.”

Nida Sinnokrot is an artist and filmmaker of Palestinian origin, who employs a variety of mediums to transform ordinary objects or actions into sensory experiences that reveal a complexity of form and perception trapped within the mundane. His films, installations, and sculptures often explore notions of time and space in a phenomenological investigation of Diaspora consciousness. ‘Caravans’ is Sinnokrot’s first solo exhibition in the region.
