أسمهان
هشام البزري، 21 دقيقة، بدون حوار، 2005
بإعادة مونتاج فيلم مصري يعود لعام 1944 من بطولة “أسمهان” – تلك الممثلة والمغنية السورية المتحررة بالنسبة لعصرها – وجعلها مركزاً لفيلمه الشاعري، يستبدل المخرج هشام البزري السرد الأصلي بلقطات متسلسلة تُظهر إيماءات “أسمهان”، أو مقترحات لمظاهر من حياتها. في بعض الأحيان، يبدو أن السلبية تهيمن على تصرفاتها. ولكن في كثير من الأحيان الأخرى، تبدو أنها تمسك بزمام الأمور وأن الكون يدور حولها. تبدو الممثلة وكأنها عالم بأكمله بمشاعر مختلطة ودرجات متفاوتة من الغموض تظهر على محياها.

فيلم شاعري عن جنون الحرب والعنف في لبنان. يعود المخرج إلى بلده الأصلي، عام2007 ليصنع فيلماً عن وفاة أحد جيرانه قبل 20 سنة. تدور أحداث القصة حول رجل قُتل في شوارع بيروت خلال الحرب الأهلية والعالم المُتهالك من حوله. نرى ومضات من الرجل ابتداءً من نزيفه على الرصيف ونهاية بوفاته. في آخر الفيلم، نرى لقطة تم تصويرها في الصيف الذي سبق مصرعه وهو يُبحر رفقة عائلته وخطيبته مستمتعين بيوم بسيط في حياتهم.

فيلم شاعري عن الحب يُصوّر فيه المخرج امرأة في باريس: تارةً كفنانة تؤدي عروضاً باستخدام الأرجوحة وتارة كعارضة وعاشقة وطفلة. يحاول الفيلم التقاط تلك اللحظة بين اليقظة والحلم ويحمل في طياته الكآبة والوحدة والحزن والفرح والبلوغ والطفولة. تنبثق الفكرة من تشبيه الحياة برحلة دائرية نهايتها تكون بالوصول إلى حيث بدأنا، وكأنه مكان نعرفه لأول مرة.
شلوق

يجتمع رجال مرموقون في مجلس للتحقيق في قضية وفاة غامضة. يشهد المُخبر الخاص بهم لحظة يقظة على شاطئ بحري بالقرب من الصحراء لدى عثوره على سفينة غارقة ومجسمات جمال وسحالي ورمال طينية وأنقاض مصرية ونساء يرتدين الأسود ومتسول يرجو الرحمة. أخيراً، يدرك المخبر أنه كان يحقق في أمر وفاته ليس إلا.
مُستوحى من أفلام جوزيف كورنيل، تُعد الصور الجاهزة في “شلوق” لفتة في التعبير السينمائي بهدف إعطاء معنى جديد لصور من فيلم “المومياء” لشادي عبد السلام، بالإضافة إلى بناء عالم من الأفلام يستند إلى علاقة مباشرة مع صور مقيدة للمذهب الطبيعي وشدة الجمال.

Asmahan

Re-editing a 1944 Egyptian film starring Asmahan; this liberated-for-her-era Syrian actress-singer to center his 21-minute film poem around her, Hisham Bizri replaces the original narrative with sequences that show her gestures, or suggest the actress’s life. Sometimes she seems passively acted upon, but more often she appears to stage-manage the action, the universe seeming to revolve around her. The actress is presented as a world in herself, with a cosmos of both varied emotions and varying degrees of inscrutability contained in her face.
A Song for the Deaf Ear

It is a film poem about the insanity of war and violence in Lebanon. The filmmaker returned to his country of origin in 2007 to create a film on the death of his neighbors some 20 years ago. He constructed a story that revolves around a man, who was shot dead on the streets of Beirut during the civil war and the crumbling world surrounding him. We see flashes of him throughout the film, first bleeding on the pavement, and finally, his death. At the end, we see a home movie shot the summer before his death; he is sailing with his family and his fiancée while enjoying a simple day in their life.

A film poem about love, where the filmmaker photographs a woman in Paris: as a trapeze artist, a model, a lover and a child. The film attempts to capture that moment between wakefulness and dream. It carries within it melancholy and loneliness, sadness and joy, adulthood and childhood. It evolves out of the metaphor that life is a circular journey whose end is “to arrive where we started, and know that place for the first time”.
Shluq

Remarkable men gather in a council to investigate a mysterious death. Their hired detective awakens on the seashore by the desert to find a ship sinking, anthropomorphic camels and lizards, aqueous sand and sky, living Egyptian ruins, women shrouded in black, and a decrepit beggar who asks for mercy. Finally, the detective realizes he’s been investigating his own death.
Inspired by the films of Joseph Cornell, the readymade images of SIROCCO are a gesture in Mannerist cinematic expression meant to give new meaning to the images of Chadi Abdel Salam’s film “The Mummy” (1969), and to stage a film world that is built in direct relation to images of restrained naturalism and heightened beauty.
