A Talk by Salwa Mikdadi

Columbia Global Centers | Middle East will host Salwa Mikdadi, Visiting Associate Professor of Art History at NYU Abu Dhabi, for a public talk as part of the Center’s ongoing speaker series.

Mikdadi is an art historian whose research and teaching interests include modern and contemporary art of the Arab world, gender and politics in art, civil society art institutions in the Arab world and museums and their visitors. She has conducted research in Jordan, Palestine, UAE, Syria and Lebanon on the governance and management of not for profit art institutions.

Miqdadi has contributed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art Timeline of Art History web site, writing on history of twentieth century contemporary art of West Asia, North Africa and Egypt. She is the curator of the first Palestinian Pavilion for 2009 Venice Biennial and the co-editor of New Visions: Contemporary Arab Art of the 21st Century. Mikdadi previously lectured at the John F. Kennedy University Museum Studies Program in California, and headed the Arts and Culture Program at Emirates Foundation in Abu Dhabi.
