تخلق الأمنية الأخيرة لأم تحتضر لغزاً أليماً يتوجب على أولادها حله. عند قراءة وصية والدتهما، ينطلق التوأمان، “جيان” و “سيمون”، في رحلة إلى الشرق الأوسط بحثاً عن جذورهما المتشابكة. يتتبعان تعليمات لاقتفاء أثر والدهما، كانا يعتقدان بأنه ميت، وشقيق لم يعرفا بوجوده من قبل. يسافران في محاولة لتجميع خيوط قصة المرأة التي جلبتهما إلى العالم، مما يقودهما إلى اكتشاف مروع.
يتتبع فيلم “الحرائق”، المستوحى من مسرحية الكاتب اللبناني-الكندي وجدي معوض، الحكاية القوية والمؤثرة لرحلة شابين نحو منطقة تحمل في صميمها الكراهية المتجذرة والحروب اللانهائية والحب الثابت.
حاز الفيلم جوائز “جيني” لأفضل فيلم وأفضل ممثلة وأفضل مخرج وأفضل سيناريو وتصوير سينمائي ومونتاج وتقنية صوت وجائزة أفضل فيلم روائي كندي في مهرجان الفيلم الأطلسي وجائزة الجمهور لأفضل فيلم أجنبي في رابطة شيكاغو لنقاد السينما وجائزة المخرجين في مهرجان بالم سبرينغز السينمائي الدولي.
تم ترشيح الفيلم لجوائز الأوسكار عن فئة أفضل فيلم أجنبي. كما تم اختيار الفيلم من قبل “نيويورك تايمز” من ضمن أفضل عشرة أفلام للعام 2011.

A mother’s last wish creates a painful puzzle her children are forced to solve. At the reading of their mother’s will, twins Jeanne and Simon set off on a journey to the Middle East in search of their tangled roots. They are given instructions to locate the father they believed was dead and the brother neither knew existed. They travel to piece together the story of the woman who brought them into the world, only to make a shocking discovery.
Adapted from Wajdi Mouawad’s acclaimed play, “Incendies” follows the powerful and moving tale of two young adults’ voyage to the core of deep-rooted hatred, never-ending wars and enduring love.
The film has won the Genie Awards for Best Motion Picture, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Overall Sound and Sound Editing, Best Canadian Feature Film at the Atlantic Film Festival, the Audience Award for Best Foreign Film at Chicago Film Critics Association Awards and “Directors to Watch” Award at Palm Springs International Film Festival.
It was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards. “Incendies” was also named by the New York Times as one of the 10 best films of 2011.
