يروي الفيلم قصة الرقيب “مايكل دن”، إبان الحرب العالمية الأولى، وهو جندي تعرض لجراح بالغة في فرنسا مما اضطره للعودة إلى “كالغاري” مع ندوب نفسية وجسدية. بينما يمكث “مايكل” في مستشفى عسكري، يلتقي “سارة”، ممرضة غامضة وجذابة، تجمعه بها قصة حب عاطفية. عندما يلتحق شقيق “سارة” الأصغر، “دايفيد”، للقتال في أوروبا، يشعر “مايكل” أنه يتوجب عليه اللحاق به لجمايته. “مايكل” و”دايفيد”، مثل آلاف الكنديين، تم إرسالهما للقتال في معركة “باشنديل” الدموية؛ معركة في وجه الاحتمالات المستحيلة.

قصة عن العاطفة والشجاعة والتفاني، تعكس بطولة أولئك الذين حاربوا في المعارك وشجاعة الذين يحبونهم.

حاز الفيلم جوائز “جيني” لأفضل فيلم وأفضل إخراج فني وتصميم إنتاج وأفضل تصميم أزياء وأفضل تقنية صوت، بالإضافة إلى جائزة نقابة مخرجي كندا.

Set at the height of the First World War, “Passchendaele” tells the story of Sergeant Michael Dunne, a soldier who is brutally wounded in France and returns to Calgary emotionally and physically scarred. While in the military hospital, he meets Sarah, a mysterious and attractive nurse, with whom he develops a passionate love. When Sarah’s younger brother David signs up to fight in Europe, Michael feels compelled to return to Europe to protect him. Michael and David, like thousands of Canadians, are sent to fight in the bloody battle of “Passchendaele”; a battle against impossible odds.

It is a story of passion, courage and dedication, showing the heroism of those that fought in battle, and of the ones that loved them.

The film has won the Genie Awards for Best Motion Picture, Best Achievement in Art Direction/Production Design, Best Achievement in Costume Design and Best Achievement in Overall Sound, in addition to the Directors Guild of Canada Team Award.
