Echoing Borders Seminar: Student Travel to Jordan
The Echoing Borders fall seminar offered by the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), will travel to Amman on October 11-19, 2014, with a group of nine students, accompanied by Nina Valerie Kolowratnik, Adjunct Associate Professor at GSAPP, and Madeeha Merchant, Research Associate at GSAPP.
Following on the Echoing Borders summer workshop that was held in August 2014 in Amman and Istanbul, this seminar aims to investigate the shifting notions of borders and citizenship and the spatial manifestations of migration and mobility within contemporary politics in Jordan. The seminar focuses on both spatial political theory and conceptual visualization strategies, and is part of a long-term research initiative titled “Echoing Borders: The Shelter, The Camp, The City and the State” led by Nora Akawi, Studio-X Amman Lab Curator, and Nina Kolowratnik through the Studio-X Global Network.
