“باباريلي” فريق كرة قدم ضعيف من سردينيا يلعب في الدوري الثالث في مباريات بطولة ايطاليا. سنة بعد سنة، ينتكس الفريق أمام خصمه “مونتيكرازو” بقيادة “براي”. لكن حين يعود المهاجر الشاب “ماتزوتزي”، وهو لاعب نجم، إلى سردينيا ويلتحق بفريق “باباريلي” يبدأ الفريق بالفوز. قصة الفريقين مترابطة بتألق نجم الحكم “كروتشياني”. وفيما يحظى “ماتزوتزي” بقلب “ميرندا”، يشرع “كروتشياني” في الضلوع بعمليات رشوة، مما يسقطه من مساره الواعد كحكم إلى هوة الدوري الثالث.
حاز الفيلم جائزة أفضل مخرج في مهرجان باري السينمائي الدولي عام 2014 وتمّ عرضه في الدورة العاشرة من أسبوع النقاد في اطار مهرجان البندقية الدولي في دورته السبعين.
The Referee (L’Arbitro) 2013
The Athletic Pabarile is a Sardinian football team poorly playing in the Third Division of the Italian championship. Year after year, it gets humiliated by the rival team Montecrasu, coached by the arrogant Brai. But when the young emigrant Matzutzi, a real star player, comes back to Sardinia and starts playing for Pabarile, the team magically wins match after match. The stories of the two teams alternate with the ascent of the referee Cruciani. While Matzutzi gets to the heart of Miranda, Cruciani is involved in bribing activities, making him fall from promising referee to the hell of the Third Division.
The film won Best Director at Bari International Film Festival in 2014 and was screened at the opening of the 10th edition of the Critic’s Week Venice Days, at the 70th Venice International Film Festival.
