ملاحظات حول فقدان البصر
في 1983، بعد عقود من التدهور المطرد، أصبح الكاتب والعالم باللاهوت «جون هل» ضريرًا تمامًا. في محاولة لمساعدة نفسه على فهم الاضطراب في حياته، يبدأ بتوثيق تجربته على شريط كاسيت.
لاحقًا للفيلم القصير الحائز جائزة إيمي والذي يحمل نفس الاسم، يتخذ فيلم «ملاحظات حول فقدان البصر» منهجًا مبتكرًا للنوع الوثائقي. يحاكي الممثلون بشفاههم أصوات عائلة «جون» ويتم دمج التسجيلات الصوتية الأصلية له في تصوير سينمائي هائل وهندسة صوتية مُحكمة. والنتيجة قصة شعرية حميمية من الخسارة والولادة من جديد والتحول توثق رحلة «جون» الاستثنائية في عالم ما وراء البصر.
كان العرض العالمي الأول للفيلم في مهرجان صندانس السينمائي الدولي 2016. وقد حصل على جائزة لجنة التحكيم الخاصة في مهرجان سان فرانسيسكو السينمائي وجائزة الابتكار ورواية القصص وجائزة الحقائق البديلة في مهرجان شيفيلد للأفلام الوثائقية وجائزة Storyscapes في مهرجان تريبيكا السينمائي. وقد تم عرض الفيلم أيضا في عدد من المهرجانات مثل مهرجان روتردام السينمائي الدولي ومهرجان كليفلاند السينمائي الدولي ومهرجان سيدني السينمائي الدولي ومهرجان نيوزيلندا السينمائي ومهرجان إسطنبول للأفلام المستقلة.

Notes on Blindness
In 1983, after decades of steady deterioration, writer and theologian John Hull became totally blind. To help him make sense of the upheaval in his life, he began documenting his experiences on audiocassette.
Following the Emmy Award-winning short film of the same name, “Notes on Blindness” takes a creative approach to the documentary form. Actors lip-synch to the voices of the family, embedding John’s original audio recordings within compelling cinematography and textured sound design. The result is a poetic and intimate story of loss, rebirth and transformation, documenting John’s extraordinary journey into ‘a world beyond sight’.
The movie was premiered at the 2016 Sundance International Film Festival. It has received the Special Jury Prize at San Francisco Film Festival, the Innovation & Storytelling Award and the Alternate Realities VR Award at Sheffield Doc/ Fest and the Storyscapes Award at Tribeca Film Festival. It was also screened at a number of festivals like Rotterdam International Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, Sydney International Film Festival, New Zealand Film Festival and Istanbul Independent Film Festival.
