كانت تعتلي “لانس آرمسترونغ” مظاهر التوتر والندم لدى ظهوره في برنامج “أوبرا وينفري” الحواري في أوائل عام 2003 عندما اعترف أخيراً بأنه كان تحت تأثير المخدرات خلال مسيرته في عالم سباق الدراجات، مما أجّج حالة من الاندهاش حول العالم وردود فعل عنيفة على الفور. استعصى على الكثيرين تقبل الأمر، فقد كان “آرمسترونغ” مثالاً للمثابرة والعمل الإنساني ورمزاً للعزيمة التي لا تلين. ولكن بالنسبة لآخرين جاء اعترافه متوفعاً بعد طول انتظار. وعندها تم استدراج أصدقائه وزملائه إلى اتفاق قذر لا يمكن لأحد منهم التملص منه، حتى لا يتم الكشف عن مدى تواطؤهم المروع. لطالما كانت ترقد مشاعر الاستياء والغضب بسكون تحت السطح إلى أن حانت لحظة قرر فيها زميل سابق لـ “آرمسترونغ”، يشعر بالغيظ، أن يُفصح عن حقيقة الأمر.
يتعقب الفيلم مناصري وأعداء “آرمسترونغ” ممن عرفوه في ذروة نجاحه ليكشف أكبر عملية احتيال في تاريخ الرياضة.

A tense and contrite Lance Armstrong appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show in early 2013 to finally admit that he had doped during his career as a road racing cyclist. The gasps were heard around the world and the backlash was instant. For many, this was beyond comprehension; he was a survivor, a philanthropist, a symbol of unwavering determination. Yet for others, whose voices were forcibly silenced, his confession was long overdue. Friends, lovers, and fellow riders were brought into a dirty pact that no-one could betray. The frustration and resentment lay dormant just beneath the surface until an embittered ex-teammate decided to blow the whistle.
The film tracks down some of Armstrong’s cohorts and sworn enemies who knew him at the peak of his success to uncover the biggest fraud in sport history.
