يروي الفيلم قصة السكة الحديدية التي خطط الألمان لبنائها في القرن التاسع عشر قبل الحرب العالمية الأولى على أن تربط بين برلين وبغداد وبين دمشق والمدينة المنورة. اعتبر هذا الخط الحديدي سابقاً لأوانه وقد شَكل تحفة فنية جريئة في مجال الهندسة في ذلك الوقت. جمعت سكة حديد بغداد مصير عدد من الشخصيات المعروفة التي ناضلت من أجل اتمام هذا المشروع مثل هاينريش ميسنر وتوماس لورنس (أي لورانس العرب) غيرترود بيل وجورج فون سيمنز. يقطع هذا الخط كلا من تركي

This documentary tells the story of a railroad that linked Berlin with Baghdad and Damascus with Medina. A daring enterprise at the time and a masterpiece of engineering, planned and built by Germans in the turnaround of the 19th century and the years immediately leading up to the First World War. The destinies of European personalities – like Heinrich Meissner, Thomas E. Lawrence, Gertrude Bell and Georg von Siemens – were woven together by the struggle to build the Baghdad and the Hejaz Railway running across what are today the states of Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Iraq. From the beginning, its enormous strategic importance was self-evident.
