CREATIVE EMPATHY:
The internationalization process of building that is indifferent to the places, cultures, local countryside and energy, has created diffusion models that are not suitable to the climate and local conditions, so far to transform the architecture not into an opportunity, but into a global energy problem.
While the growth of the city was, in fact, a great opportunity of this century, it has also allowed the development of an economy geared solely towards profit. The consequence was a vulgarization of the building model that has led not only to a flattening of the urban landscape and an indifference to the diversity of needs, but it has created a problem of consumption often irreconcilable with the local economies, also causing pollution levels incompatible with people’s lives.
The definition of sustainability must therefore take into account two points of view, the first related to the technical and to performance, the other for proposing a new relationship between architecture and landscape: a creative empathy.
The models of development have focused on the idea of productivity, efficiency and speculation. These concepts together have not produced a diversification and complexity, but a flattening of languages and consumption that is indifferent to both micro and macro economies, and to lifestyles. The phenomenon of a unique vision, of a single global economy as well as the building model widely exported as an indifferent method, has shown all its limits through a deep dissatisfaction and lack of belonging.
Sustainability is diversity, where diversity stems from the understanding of the phenomena surrounding architecture; the ways to interpret a social desire, local economies and cultures that are just different.
Sustainability is against a model that is indifferent to place — sustainability is not global by definition — and against a principle of flattening and simplification of languages. It is the creation of a value, where value by definition is to give an aesthetic contribution, a qualitative value, a belonging value and not only defined by an economic-quantitative framework.
