Film screening, Arts and more in Amman this week

Interesting events in this week’s arts and culture calendar.

Exhibition opening “The Warrior” by Mohamed Abouelnaga at Darat Alfunun, the opining on (Sunday, 6:30 pm)
Mohamed Abouelnaga’s exhibition “The Warrior” shows his new work, in which he reflects on the issue of being a warrior in contemporary times. Inspired by a 19th century archive of glass negatives with portraits of British soldiers and their families at the time of British colonization of Egypt.

The Politics of Memory in Global Context, Bringing together scholars of memory from the social sciences and humanities, cognitive science and neuroscience, and curators of historical and memorial museums to examine the politics and cultures of memory. At Columbia Global Centers (CUMERC) (Saturday, 3:30 pm).

Also the launch of the book: Timeless Tales: folk tales told by Syrian refugees At Al-Balad theater (Sunday, 7:00 pm). The book will be presented by the editor, Zulaikha Abu Risha, and Syrian storyteller Nemer Salamun who will perform some of the stories.

The 7th Annual Amman Contemporary Dance Festival is back. Amman Contemporary Dance Festival falls within the Masahat Dance Network, a regional network comprising of Maqamat Dance Theatre in Lebanon and Sareyyet Ramallah – First Ramallah Group in Palestine; Tanween Dance Theatre in Syria and the National Center for Culture and Arts in Jordan. The importance of MASAHAT Dance Network is in providing a unique opportunity for companies to tour to all festivals in the partner countries allowing for leading choreographers to exchange experiences with local artists and reinforcing the importance of dialogue and cultural diversity. Which will take place from 14-25 April 8:00 pm at AlHussein Cultural Center (Tickets 5 JOD)

At Darat al Funun, there will be the film Screening of The Battle of Algiers (Tuesday, 6:30 pm). The Battle of Algiers is a 1966 war film based on occurrences during the Algerian War (1954–62) against the French government in North Africa, the most prominent being the titular Battle of Algiers. An Italo-Algerian production, it was directed by Gillo Pontecorvo and shot on location.
