The Syrian Crisis – Presented by Mouin Rabbani

The Syria Crisis is considered the world’s most complex and intractable conflict as well as its most urgent humanitarian crisis. This presentation will provide an overview of the genesis and development of the Syria Crisis since 2011, and examine its various national, regional and international dimensions. With Syria currently the arena of a domestic civil war, regional proxy war, and international rivalry, an examination of the current situation and key challenges to achieving a resolution of this conflict will identify priorities for restoring peace to Syria and its people.

Mouin Rabbani is an independent researcher and analyst specialising in the contemporary Middle East. He has previously served as Principal Political Affairs Officer with the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Head of Middle East with Crisis Management Initiative/Marti Ahtisaari Centre, and Senior Middle East Analyst with the International Crisis Group. He is a Co-Editor of Jadaliyya, Contributing Editor of Middle East Report, Senior Fellow with the Institute for Palestine Studies, Associate Fellow of the European Council on Foreign Relations, and Policy Advisor to Al-Shabaka – The Palestinian Policy Network. He has published and commented widely on Middle East issues, including for most major global media.
