منذ استئناف تنفيذ أحكام الإعدام نهاية العام الماضي، عاد الجدل حول العقوبة للشارع الأردني، علمًا أن الجدل لطالما كان حاضرًا سواء في المجتمعات التي لا تزال تطبق العقوبة أو التي أوقفت تطبيقها. قد تختلف الأسباب من وقت لآخر، أو ربما تتغير نسب التأييد ولكن يبقى السؤال حول إذا ما كانت العقوبة تأتي لإعادة التأهيل أو الانتقام من المجرم محل نقاش.
حبر تدعوكم لحضور الفيلم الوثائقي Into the Abyss (إلى الهاوية) والانضمام للنقاش حول عقوبة الإعدام بعد ذلك، الفيلم من كتابة وإخراج ورنر هيرزوغ، ويتناول قصة رجلين مدانين بثلاث قضايا قتل، أحدهما، مايكل بيري، حكم عليه بالإعدام.
الفيلم حائز على جائزة أفضل فيلم وثائقي لعام 2011 في مهرجان أفلام لندن.

The debate over the death penalty in Jordan was reignited after the government ended an eight-year moratorium on capital punishment last year and executed 11 convicts. Around the world, the question of whether or not the death penalty is a fair punishment for crime, and whether rehabilitation is a better path, is still a subject of discussion.
7iber invites you to attend the screening of the documentary Into The Abyss (2011), followed by a discussion on the death penalty. The film is written and directed by Werner Herzog. It explores capital punishment through interviews with convicted killers, their victims’ families, and members of the Texas criminal justice system.
The film won best documentary in the London Film Festival in 2011.
