كارل شرّو مهندس معماري وكاتب ساخر وكاتب مقالات حول شؤون الشرق الأوسط. يعمل كمخرج في مجموعة PLP Architecture المعمارية في لندن وشارك في كتابة “مانيفستو: نحو مدرسة إنسانية جديدة في العمارة”. هذا المانيفستو كان جزءًا من كتاب ضمّ استطلاعًا لأكثر مئة مانيفستو فني تأثيرًا في السنوات المئة الأخيرة. يكتب كارل في مدونة Karl reMarks وفي حساب @KarlreMarks على تويتر حيث ينشر مقالاته الساخرة.
سبق ودرّس كارل في قسم العمارة في الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت، وعمل في مشاريع مباني ومخططات كبرى في بريطانيا وأوروبا والشرق الأوسط، إلى جانب مشاريع نظرية تبحث في شكل المدن في المستقبل ومدى تكيّفها مع التطور السريع.
كتب كارل في عدد من المطبوعات والمؤسسات العالمية منها صحيفة الإندبندنت، ذا غلوب أند ميل، فورين بوليسي، ذا ناشيونال، جدلية، وغيرها الكثير.
حاضر كارل في سلسلة من المواضيع تمتد من الفن والعمارة والحضرية إلى السياسة في الشرق الأوسط، ويظهر بشكل متكرر في وسائل إعلام مختلفة، كما أعد برنامجًا على الموجة الليلية لإذاعة بي بي سي الثالثة حول المعارض الإسلامية في متحف اللوفر في باريس وبرج شارد في لندن. ودافع كارل عن طرح الحدود المفتوحة بين الدول في حديثه في TedX لندن عام 2011.

Karl Sharro is an architect, writer, satirist, and commentator on the Middle East. He is a director at PLP Architecture in London and co-author of Manifesto: Towards a New Humanism in Architecture. The manifesto was included in 100 Artists’ Manifestos: From the Futurists to the Stuckists, a survey of 100 influential art manifestos from the last 100 years. He blogs at Karl reMarks and on Twitter @KarlreMarks where his satirical pieces are published.
Karl previously taught at the Department of Architecture at the American University of Beirut. He has been involved in the design of various buildings and master plans in the UK, Europe and the Middle East, as well as theoretical projects that look at how cities could look in the future and adapt with rapid development.
Karl has written for a number of international publications and organisations, such as The Independent, Foreign Policy, Open Democracy, The Globe and Mail, New Humanist, Vice, The National, Jadaliyya, Syria Deeply, World Architecture News, Index on Censorship, Novo, Urban Design, Glass, Blueprint, and others.
He has spoken on a range of issues such as art, architecture, urbanism and Middle Eastern politics. He appears regularly on various media outlets and has made programs with BBC Radio Three’s Nightwaves about the Islamic Galleries at the Louvre Museum in Paris and The Shard in London. He presented his argument for open borders in a TedX talk in London in 2011.
