Al Balad Music Festival, Jerash, Mousiqana, and More Events This Week

This week, Jordan sees various musical events, with music festivals and different concerts taking place in Amman and elsewhere.

Jerash Festivals continues with performances in both its North and South thearters. Interesting concerts this week include “Haidouti Balkan” on Monday, “Act of Congress” on Tuesday, and Maaloma Bint Maddah on Wednesday (all in the North Theater). South Theater will host Jeel Club For Circassian Folklore on Tuesday.

At Darat Al Funun, the second “Mousiqana” concert will take place on Tuesday, 7:30 pm. After over a month of intensive training with Jordanian musician Tarek Al-Jundi, participants of the music workshop will present a live concert of Arabic classical music.

At the Odeon theater, Al Balad music festival opens this Wednesday (8:00 pm) with a performance by Tarab band, which was formed in Malmö in 2008, and hosts some of Sweden’s most skilled folk musicians. (Ticket: 15 JD).

Tunisian Oud player, vocalist and composer Dhafer Youssef will also be performing at Al Balad music festival, on Monday, 7:00 pm (Ticket: 70-15 JD). Other interesting nights in the festival include the performances of Sufi musician Mounir Troudi (Saturday, 8:00 pm, 15 JD) and independent Jordanian band “Ayloul” (Friday, 8:00 pm, 7 JD).

Shoman Musical evenings hosts Laila Sabbagh and the Group this Thursday, 7:30 pm. Sabbagh’s performance is fusion of classical Arabic music with Spanish and Latin American rythms.

At FADA 317, 12 graffiti artists meet up and decide to spray their styles on canvas, asking themselves: Is graffiti a visual escape for the graffiti artist himself/herself or is it an escape that they offer to others? (Saturday, 6:00 pm).
